State Insurance Restrengthening

The Palmerston North landmark of 65 Rangitikei Street, known locally as the State Insurance building was extensively strengthened.

Our initial involvement in this building was for its structural upgrade involving the construction of in-situ concrete sheer walls. A $1.16 million project on an occupied building, we went on to undertake a number of floor refurbishments and amenity upgrades including the entry lobby alterations and fitout totalling $700,000 over 13 additional projects.

The addition of 48 heavily reinforced concrete sheer walls commenced in the basement and continued up for six levels. This included strengthening the operating lift shaft and stairwells. Tenants were temporarily housed on vacant floors while the build continued, much of it at night.
