Feilding Resource Recovery Center

Scope of work

An early contractor involvement project where we worked with the Manawatu District Council on the fi nal design to build the 2,000m2 Resource Recovery Centre within their budget. We were awarded the contract following a competitive process of coming up with a proposal that was a combination of the best building and value for money. Along with our Consultants we worked closely with the client, continually refi ning the design to achieve the best possible outcome. Constructed on relatively soft ground, a substantial gravel raft 1.4m thick provided the necessary sub foundation.

The mono-pitch superstructure consisted of a steel frame with precast panels up to 2m on all sides with coloursteel above, and a coloursteel and translucent roof. The internal ‘tip floor’ was a jointless 200mm thick steel fi bre reinforced concrete slab, with 2m high 460mm thick, part steel armoured precast panels to the perimeter. The precast panels were designed to withstand front end loaders hitting them whilst pushing the rubbish into place. Despite a tight programme the building was handed over to the client on time.
